You look fab… I’ve hit my heaviest, having been slim in the past and joined Slimming World this week.  You programme was perfect timing…  I know I can do it this time, and your story is so inspiring Claire.  Stay focused and remember how much happier you are when you keep on track.  My youngest starts school this week and I can’t use baby weight as an excuse anymore :-D

  • Joanna

Firstly you look great fat or thin and it is great to see how someone like you (who is normal!) deal with the same problem so many of us have. i was inspired by your determination to get to the bottom of your eating habits and try to identify why you ate. i could totally identitfy with the focus and results you acheived one minute and then the relaxed apathy the next. it was nice to see you have been fat and wobbly and can be firm and thin. your personality is amazing, so positive and honest. it’s a shame you can’t get a handle on food-it can be your friend if you respect it.

Overeating is what it is, overeating! It’s up to you to choose whether to eat more than you need or not. i struggle with this everyday but i make a conscious choice when i put any food in my mouth (and yes sometimes/often i eat crap) and i know that it means i must deal with that choice for that day and not drop the ball. it’s definately a mindset that i have chosen to adopt. being my choice and not one of a diet makes me feel more in control of it. i make sure one enjoyable treat does not lead to a free for all fridge raid and i love searching out and shopping for the occasional yummy cheese or chocolate bar. the less crappy foods i eat the less i seem to crave them and by allowing myself bad things sometimes, it stops that feeling of ‘ i can’t have it so i must have it until i feel sick!

i am really looking forward to seeing how you get on and hope you remain inspirational to others and are happy with whatever weight you reach. you have everything going for you whether you are a size 8 or 20. what a great family you have, a what a nice person you are. good luck!

I have just watched your programme, really enjoyed it and can share so much of what you have been through. You are a beautiful person whatever your weight. One thing I want to say, I am a play therapist/child counsellor and wonder how much of your negativity about your body, diet etc will be picked up by your children. I know we saw only a tiny amount of your life and also the bits the TV company wanted to show us so who am I to judge. But children are very quick to pick up behaviours of their parents and I know you would hate either of them to have your insecurities, have you tried CBT? Enough of my opinion, and this is no wish to offend just to help

I agree 100% with this comment. I have also just watched Claire’s programme, and the one thing that stuck out for me is that she has it all! A husband who clearly loves her, beautiful children who will adore their mummy unconditionally…so why is the opinion of the general public important? Being fat or thin is only an external perception and issue, yet what you are internally is what’s important. No matter what your weight is Claire, so long as you continue to have a positive outlook on life, raise your children correctly, and love those around you then that is ALL that matters. I will state now I am a nurse and understand the health implications of obesity, yet in my personal opinion I feel you need psychological assistance to deal with your weight gain/loss.

Forget the magazine deals, and “documentaries”…you are obviously an intelligent woman and know in your heart these people are only exploiting you, and no offense, they would rather you fail than succeed in your weight battle as it guarantees a better audience for them. Be true to yourself, love your family, accept their love for you…but more importantly; learn how to love yourself. You are beautiful no matter what. Good luck for your future, I sincerely wish you happiness.

So loved the programme although it did bring a tear to my eyes, I run a support group for mums with PND and have watched one of the members lose 7 stone on slimming world, she has grown with confidence and now has none of the self loathing at her body image. I have recently lost 3stone and honestly couldn’t see any change in my shape, until a member said have you actually seen how you look in those clothes? I went into a store changing room and actually saw my new shape for the first time :-) , when you are looking in the same mirror in the same room that you always have it’s impossible to see any difference, try it!
You are so NOT on your own with how you feel towards your weight, finding the key to why is the answer, easier said than done I know, person centered counselling is good place to start, you have the answer you are looking for go for it and be happy with your body no matter what size you are :-)

Watched the programme last night and i could have been watching myself, totally know where claire is coming from. Loved it :)

  • Lucy Jones

I never liked Steps, and I never will!  But, Claire, I think you are such an amazing person.  I watched your programme with constant steady tears rolling down my face.  I so get where you are coming from.  I too have lost and gained weight over many years.  I am obsessed with food.  I so want it to be down to a hormonal imbalance that makes me overeat, I wish I could take a tablet to level it out and to be “normal” with food. I, like you,  turn to food with every emotion.  I am happy with other areas of my life.  I had a good childhood, there was no trigger, it’s just the way I am.  It’s all down to willpower and mindset and it is so important to get inspiration and you are truly inspiring.  It would be great to have a forum on your website so people can support each other.  I can’t wait to see the next episode and, thank you so very much for sharing your story with us.

  • Lisa Connolly

love it,at last someone JUST like me when it comes to dieting, wish the programme was on for longer though, cant wait 2 see the nxt ep,3days 2 go,

  • Sindy_glaysher

Life is too short to worry all the time, but I know how you feel.  I was really active before the children came along, but I then decided family were more important than myself.  I think you just need to eat abit less of all foods and try to be a bit more active.  Be happy Claire your not a bad person, make time for yourself that may help, that’s what I do.

Just wanted to say thank you so much, I really enjoyed watching your programme, it was like watching myself, I have been on every diet like you, gone to hypnotherapy and yet I still cannot lose the weight.

It takes courage to share some of those things with the rest of the world and I admire you for that, you seem like a geniune, normal person,

I cannot wait for the next episode, you look gorgeous, lets hope that we can all beat this relationship that some of us seem to have with food

    Jo xxx

  • Sarahjn

Great show, all those people that said horrid things should be ashamed of themselves, who are they to judge you, being a mum and trying to not pick is sooo hard, i started a load of diets but still have 2 stone to go, so when you ve cracked it don t forget to let us all know :)
ps you look great as you are

  • Qrlcharlie

    Hi Claire
Watched the programme on Sky Anytime, as something to watch really in a bored moment at home. When i first saw the title i didnt put 2 and 2 together, forgot about you and Steps, then i watched the start and thought ‘well lets give it a look’.
I have to say i was surprised. It was interesting and pleasant to see someone Normal, with no airs or graces, on my screen, showing how fickle the world of the Celebrity is.
As the programme continued i found myself engrossed in the emmotional roller-coaster playing out on my screen, the highs and the lows, and the life long effects of the pressure of the media.
All i can say Claire is well done and thank you for sharing honestly a very private part of youre world with us, it shows us that underneath all the glitter of the Steps lifestyle there were 5 normal people trying to make people feel good at the cost of their own way of life.
Unfortunatley i fear nothing will ever change in Celeb land, but on the bright side you have a really nice family, nice and normal hubby, and at least youre past has given you some stability and investment for youre future and youre children
Keep up the good work and dont ever change
    …. and if youre hubbys reasonable i need a re-wire soon :-)
    take care

  • TJ

enjoyed the programme, nice to see someone being normal for a change.. you look good big or small..:) ….related to you alot..lol… with the food issues…

  • Lisascott

    Hi Claire,
I have been watching ‘Slave to food’ and think it’s the best prgramme on weight issues ever to be made. You are so candid & I can relate 100% with the thoughts and frustrating feelings you have about the lack of control when you know you need to address your weight. The thing that struck me most about your programme was that I didn’t realise how beautiful you are and if I was 12stone (which you look awesome at) I would be so happy! I have 5 stone to lose and don’t know where to start. I have an amazing husband, a lot like yours, very supportive and tells me i’m gorgeous whatever size I am and I have just started a childrens party company (www.trulyscrumptiouspamperparties.com) so am determined and strong minded but just can’t relax about food!! Oh well, keep at it girl & thank you for making the programme,

    Lisa x

YOU are your own worse enemy, you are making yourself all about food, and your not. You’re a mummy (a yummy mummy), a wife with a fab hubby and you are blessed with great looks and an amazing voice, you are letting people label you!. But unfortunately you haven’t been blessed with skinny genes and can’t eat everything you want (nor i) without piling on the lbs (very few can) so girls like us have to do a bit of excersise and have to watch what we eat but it doesn’t have to be extreme, does it? so stop thinking there’s some magic answer out there because there isn’t,(if there was we’d all be slim)!. When you’re an old lady looking back at your life your not gonna think i wish i’d been a bean pole, your gonna think i wished i enjoyed my life and stopped worrying about what other people think. So this is what I think- get a song out there, sexy black and white vid, all curves and smouldering eye make up and strutt your stuff claire, and stick two cadbury’s chocolate fingers up to all those that have bitched about you, have fun enjoy your life!- And listen to your husband  he’s a wize guy and he loves you! XXX

    • Asloan77

Just watched the last episode and i’m sooo sad it’s over. When i watch you Claire it’s like watching myself. It’s great to see real women on the tv and not these skinny minnie’s! What i love about you Claire is that you are so honest. Best of luck :-) x

  • Vikki

I LOVE your show Claire, I can’t tell you how similar you are to me! I keep watching it thinking ‘I wonder if she will stumble on the answer and then I might be able to do it too’. Unlike you though I have never managed to get the weight off! I might loose a stone but then it goes back on, I have never managed to stick to any diet long term and actually get the weight off. I have no memory of ever being thin and I don’t think that helps! Where’s the motivation if you don’t have any skinny jeans! I would love to have your figure though, I’m a good 2 stone heavier than you and I think you look beautiful! Like others have said on here, sod everyone else, you are gorgeous, you have your life set up and you should be happy. Thank you for sharing. You don’t know how nice it is to know there are people out there just like me! Thanks x

  • karen

I totally get where you are coming from.  I loved your programme.  Please don’t take the liposuction option. You are a beautiful person with a husband and two children who love you to bits.

  • jason

claire i think you look well fit great looking women i wish i was your husband !!

  • Shexyemsh

I love claire richards i think she should me happy wether she is skinny or a bit bigger its how she feels and the way god wants her to be she looks beautiful either way she shuld be who she wants to be not what every1 else wants her to be or what they want to see x

  • samkhan

Hi claire love watching your show, i, as so many others can relate to you. There is no magic wand or quick fix. But its hard to keep all the balls juggling, work, family excersise etc. I like you constantly beat myself up about my weight, which by the way is the same as yours and same height and two kids too. But when i say to myself thats it i am what i am, i find i dont think about food quite as much and loose weight? you have a fabulous husband who, like mine loves you however you are. You are so so pretty and talented, my husband said how sexy you looked in your recent photos in the paper. Lets both make a pact to enjoy life and just make the most of what we have, like the other person said you dont want to look back on life and wish you had enjoyed it more instead of stressing about our weight. Much love to you and your family and i look forward to seeing what is instore for you in the future on tv etc, because i know you will be :-) )) xxx

  • Emmylou1986

I’m 24 years old and I’ve battled with weight problems all my life. At my heaviest I was 18 Stone 7lbs at 17, and dieted right down to 10 stone 7lbs. I became obsessed with what I put in my mouth and was unhappy at both sizes. So I can totally relate to what your going through. At the moment I am too scared to stand on the dreaded scales haha. I must say I enjoy watching your show. Its must be terrible to have to undergo media scrutiny and have people (like myself and others) comment and judge you. I felt awful for you when you were having to read the horrible things that people were saying about you. Let them go over your head and focus on what makes you happy, your beautiful family and loving husband (believe me they aren’t ten a penny) :-) P.S I LOVE YOUR FRIDGE!!! haha xxx

  • kellyrush

god girl u make me laugh, u r beautiful and very talented. Stop worrying about ur weight as you have no need to, u have a fab figure. But as a young woman and mother myself I worry constantly about my weight and i’m like a yoyo in weight and diets, I used to have a lovely figure b4 my 2 boys even though at the time I didn’t think so, now im a size 14-16 and keep trying diets but love food and don’t exersise apart from walking to and fro school 4 times a day. So I can understand what u r going through. Gd luck with finding the right diet and hopefully one day u will be happy with urself.x

  • Kellymg

your programme a slave to food is amazing i have loved watching it and every time i do i always find myself saying thats me thats me!!!!!i love my food i could eat all day long n all the wrong things… i eat when im happy, sad, angry, bored….its what i love!!i try to exercise as much as but with 2 young children its hard!! i recently got married and lost over a stone for that because i had a goal but since then i have put it back on its so easily done :-( …but i truly think you are a inspiration talkin about it and making normal people like me see its not just me feeling like crap about myself and non stop eating!!! ui do think willpower and a aim is the best way to work towards ure ‘goal weight’ thats what im tryin to do!!good luck and god bless kelly xx

  • Amandajayne28

Brilliantly done, honest, funny, interesting, heart warming and emotional, loved it! x

  • Bsexy73

I loved steps and still listen to you now even aged 38. I think you have such a talent with your voice and I think you forget it’s your gift. I wish I had it. You are such an attractive lady whatever weight you are you have such a beautiful face. I am a mum of 3 children my last aged two by emergency c section. I have a muffin top as it’s called because of this and yes I did beat myself up about it. I was a size 8 in my younger years. I now accept the way I am and only because my kids are worth it. I cook healthy meals but boy it’s trouble as all my kids reject them. So at the moment I will carry on giving sausage and chips for my two year old until he changes as he wont eat otherwise. Love your filming but why so many mirrors that probably doesn’t help.Open and honest but you are so normal just like most of us and give yourself a break and get on that stage. I would love to hear you sing. Take care. Cream with steak is better. Lol

  • Teresa Hunter

Hi Claire, I watched your series slave to Food, I laughed and i cried it was like watching myself with your husband saying the same as mine, he watched it with me. I myself was 17st 12lbs but that was 20 years ago I lost 100lbs after years of yoyo dieting, most of it stayed off but for the last couple of years i have been struggling with a couple of stone, it comes off it goes back on and i too wish there was a label for it that could be treated. I just wish I had been born with the skinny genes and Like you I should practice what I preach. You are very Beautiful and talented and have everything a girl could want make the most of it coz lifes to short.

  • suzyb

What a heartless nasty bitch you are!! The very least you could do is say sorry for destroying their lives!! Even H is sorry! How heartless are you??

    • Mj2206

How vile you are Suzy. You can’t put yourself in Claire’s shoes …she did what she had to at the time. There are very few people who experience that sort of intense work, travelling non-stop and ridiculously hard long hours… and they were all so young. That is why many pop stars with half the success of Steps ‘burn out’ and stop. It just becomes so much physically and mentally to take. Have some compassion…

  • Cassidyj81

Just watched sky series steps reunion I think your fab Claire,, as for the other two girls they seem nothing but sad school ground bullies can’t think of the one who lives in Dubai whatever her name is she’s horrid how important does she think she is get over yourselves so what if h and Claire left under a bit of a cloud they were young at the time so stop trying to punish them both for it they are the only two with any talent anyway

  • Ellie

I am currently watching the Steps reunion, I used to love Steps and still do, but I can see that other members of the group still have a lot of problems, particularly with Claire, they must remember that H also walked off of the group.Lisa has no right to stick the knife in, she couldn’t even be bothered to attend the rehearsals for the Steps tour. I understand she lives in Dubai and that it would be a strain to leave her family but when I watched the programme a couple of weeks ago I saw her husband and children here with her, so whats that all about?Plus the fact that when she was approached by whoever to start all this again, she should have said no unless she was totally committed, and she has no right, nor does Faye to talk of other members of Steps that are not as committed. It was so obvious she meant Clair, Claire turned up for everything.,even when she was obviously quite poorly.
Faye, obviously wants Steps to re-form but she cannot keep making sarcastic remarks, if her and Lee are so wanting to re-unite permanently, maybe they should do it on their own, but having said that we know why they wont,it is because Claire is the one that has the voice..
As for Claire’s weight, it doesn’t matter, or it shouldn’t as long as she is happy.
They all need to think about what they want and not blame the others for not wanting the same things!!
